The Greater Augusta Long Term Recovery Committee (GALTRC) was established in response to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in 2024. In the storm’s wake, our community faced unprecedented challenges—homes were destroyed, families displaced, and critical infrastructure compromised. Amid the hardship, one thing was clear: recovery would require unity, coordination, and a long-term commitment to rebuilding stronger than before.
GALTRC emerged as a coalition of local nonprofits, faith-based organizations, government agencies, and community leaders, united by a shared mission: to restore, rebuild, and revitalize the Greater Augusta, Georgia region with equity, dignity, and resilience at the forefront.
Our purpose is to coordinate disaster recovery efforts for individuals and families who are most vulnerable and have unmet needs following a major disaster. We work to ensure that resources—financial, material, and human—are distributed efficiently and fairly, helping residents not just return to where they were before, but move forward with greater stability and preparedness.
A stronger, safer, and more resilient Greater Augusta—where every resident has the support they need to recover and thrive after disaster.
